The Adelaide Thorpe Scholarship was established in 2007 to honor her many years of service in the healthcare industry.
As one of the very first pink ladies, Ms. Adelaide Thorpe has been part of Brazosport Regional Health System since 1958. Shortly after her involvement started with the original all-lady group of volunteers, Ms. Thorpe joined the Board of Directors for the hospital in 1961 and later became a member of the Institutional Review Board. Ms. Thorpe has remained on the Institutional Review Board for more than 37 years and since 2006, she has been an active board member for the Foundation.
The scholarship fund assists in removing financial barriers for those interested in pursuing a nursing career. The full scholarship is earmarked for nursing students at Brazosport College and will help with tuition, books, and living expenses. Following completion of their nursing education, the scholarship recipient is expected to work at Brazosport Regional Health System for two years.
“This scholarship is so very important to me because my late husband, Vincent, and I both had scholarships to attend college,” expressed Ms. Thorpe. “Nurses are the heart of any hospital and we need many more of them.”
